This Holiday Season, we are raising funds to send books to readers who are incarcerated as holiday gifts. Our goal is to send at least 500 books inside by the end of the year. https://www.haymarketbooks.org/blogs/478-books-not-bars-for-the-holidays

With much joy and love and gratitude, I wish to announce the publication of Race-ing Queens, a Special Issue of Barnard Center for Research on Women’s The Scholar and Feminist Online, co-edited with Sonja Drimmer (art historian), Treva B. Lindsey (Black feminist historian), and yours truly (literary critic). This special issue has been in the works for more than three (pandemic) years, and is the brainchild of the visionary mentor, colleague, and all-around Queen, Kim Hall. It is transhistorical, interdisciplinary, and open-access (and we are hoping, teachable)

I’m still learning!!!! I guess I have to tag #introduction so here’s my intro again: I write about food & race. I was a food writer then an academic. I work at Pomona College. I’m working on too many books! One about William Goldman; another called Deviant Matter; a third about race & culture & foods that travel. I don’t love to teach but I do it really well. A few years ago I took on institutional racism in my department. I’m deciding whether to write about that or not. I have a substack!

We’re invested in a future where communities build the product, instead of being the product. If you are in a position to contribute to our campaign, we would be hugely grateful for your support! tinyurl.com/yc28usz4

Give her what she really wants this holiday season. Death to the patriarchy, an ancient tome of curses from the forest witch, the hearts of her enemies, and deep pockets in every dress and pair of pants.

If you're like me, then you were really happy to learn about Mastodon's enthusiastic support for image descriptions, and you were eager to join in.

Then you went to actually write something and realized you have no idea how to present visual info in a way that is helpful/enjoyable to those who are #VisuallyImpaired or #Blind.

I found this guide really informative: https://uxdesign.cc/how-to-write-an-image-description-2f30d3bf5546

Post-viral Edit: Don't forget to give the author some love on medium. They did the work!

I wrote a short piece for the UNT blog!

"The Eyes Have It in Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass" 👁 is a close reading of Steve Pugh's use of eye imagery in his visual storytelling. Give it a read!
